Orihuela. Carlos Sastre lost another 18 seconds today together with team mate Xavi Tondo when he was cut off in the final straight of the stage that finished in Orihuela. “I was with my team mates at the front of the peloton throughout the stage but the final stretch was fairly chaotic, they started cutting riders up and there were cars from the organisers parked on the right side of the road. The last three kilometres, which were seemingly the easiest, were the worst of today’s stage”, said the leader of the Cervélo TestTeam.
“This stage reminded me of the stages in Holland, with lots of bends, crossroads and roundabouts... We went through the same place twenty times and it really has been a more agitated day, with a lot of wind. You had to be on the ball in case of cuts in the pack", added Carlos, who despite losing more time is looking forward to the rest of the race optimistically.
“I’m feeling a little better every day, I'm gradually getting into the race and I think we'll be seeing the true start to this year's Vuelta a España this weekend", he confirmed.
