Carlos Sastre takes on the Giro feeling calm and confident
Venice (Italy). “The Giro starts tomorrow with a team time trial. After a week of preliminaries, preparation and stage reconnaissance, I'm ready to start the race as I had hoped. I also have the peace of mind of being backed by a young but experienced team, who will help me to get through these three adventurous weeks. And I think I have enough guarantees to start feeling calm and confident.” “The presentation of the Giro d’Italia in Venice yesterday was really special, it was held in St. Mark’s Square, the city’s most spectacular spot, and was followed by a press conference. These two events were the starting point of this year’s Giro. From that moment onwards, all of us cyclists started thinking about what this race means and today, after the training session and preparation for the time trail tomorrow, I think everyone is already in the race and feeling geared up to ride in the Giro d’Italia 2009.”
