Lleida. Carlos Sastre didn’t have any problems getting through today’s stage, which as far as he was concerned, was a transitional day and a chance to recharge his batteries before the weekend. “It has been a very fast day - there were tail winds at the start but these quickly turned into headwinds. The sprinters had their chance to get into a sprint today, and that’s what happened”, he said at the finish line in Lleida at the end of the twelfth stage of the Vuelta a España. The Cervélo TestTeam leader, who is sharing his leadership with Xavi Tondo in this Vuelta, admitted that “the team has worked well and I’ve been really protected, especially in the last part, where we could feel the side winds”. “It has been a hard but manageable day”, he concluded.
